Holiday Season 2024

Lighting Up 2024: XMDS Sponsors the Iconic “Biggest Christmas Tree” in IJsselstein

For over two decades, the Gerbrandy Tower in IJsselstein has been transformed into the world’s tallest freestanding Christmas tree, standing an impressive 372 meters high. This dazzling display of holiday cheer has become a cherished tradition in the Netherlands, drawing admiration from locals and international visitors alike. This year, we at XMDS are proud to once again sponsor this incredible project, bringing the magic of the "Biggest Christmas Tree" to life for the 2024 holiday season.

A Beacon of Festive Joy

Transforming the Gerbrandy Tower into a glowing Christmas tree is no small feat. Each year, lights are attached to strings which are then hoisted into the tower, avoiding damage to the structural support cables. The hundreds of meters long strings create a stunning visual display, turning the tower into a beacon of festive cheer visible for miles.

This awe-inspiring project hasn’t been without its challenges. In 2017, lightning struck the tower just days before the lights were scheduled to turn on, causing significant damage. That year, the tower was lit by quickly improvised spotlights by Ampco Flashlight with help from Stichting Kerstboom and Stichting Scoop Hobbyfonds. Determined to improve, Stichting Kerstboom and Stichting Scoop Hobbyfonds developed new, state-of-the-art LED lights in 2018. These lights are brighter, more energy-efficient, and robust enough to withstand the challenging weather conditions at the tower’s height. Today, these lights continue to shine brightly, symbolising the resilience of this cherished tradition—and the people who make it possible.

Craftsmanship, Dedication, and Innovation

What inspires us most about the "Biggest Christmas Tree" is the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into making it happen. Months of preparation are required to design, test, and install the lights. Each supporting cable is fitted with its own precisely measured string of lights, which are carefully hoisted into place by a team of 15 to 20 people. These volunteers brave freezing winds and dizzying heights to ensure every light is perfectly aligned and secured.

At XMDS, we understand the importance of meticulous planning and innovative thinking. As the parent company of Ximedes and XPP, we’re driven by the same values that bring the tree to life: precision, teamwork, and a commitment to creating extraordinary results. Both Ximedes and XPP embody this spirit in their work, whether it’s building cutting-edge software solutions or pioneering payment technologies.

2025: A Year to Shine with XMDS

This year, as XMDS renews its sponsorship of the "Biggest Christmas Tree," we’re reminded of how this project reflects our mission. For us, it’s not just about lighting up the IJsselstein skyline—it’s about celebrating innovation, community, and the incredible things that happen when people work together.

As the parent company, XMDS plays a key role in enabling the success of its brands. Ximedes, our technology-driven sister company, focuses on crafting software solutions for mobility and payments, while XPP leads the way with innovative brands like KUARIO, Pecunda, Vayapay, and Ginger, providing groundbreaking solutions for payment systems and financial ecosystems. Together, we are united by a shared vision: to "engineer the future" through transformative technology and collaboration.

Why This Matters to XMDS

At XMDS, we are passionate about fostering connection and innovation. Supporting the "Biggest Christmas Tree" is more than a sponsorship—it’s a reflection of our commitment to making a positive impact on the world around us.

Much like the strings of lights around the Gerbrandy Tower, our work at XMDS is about creating connections that illuminate and inspire. Whether it’s through Ximedes’ software solutions or XPP’s suite of innovative payment technologies, we strive to empower communities and businesses to thrive.

As the tree’s lights shimmer against the night sky this holiday season, we feel proud to be part of something so inspiring. This project reminds us that when creativity, teamwork, and technology come together, the results can be magical.

From all of us at XMDS, Ximedes, and XPP, we wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a bright start to 2025!
